Kenneth Shipley, founding member and former treasurer of the Indiana Maple Syrup Association, passed away Sunday Feb 3 in Muncie after being hospitalized with massive kidney failure. Shipley had been in failing health for several years.

Vermont expert Brad Gillilan was our featured speaker at the 2007 Annual Meeting held Saturday, December 1 in New Castle. More than one hundred Hoosier maple syrup makers attended the event.

The 2007 meetings of the North American Maple Syrup Council and the International Maple Syrup Association were held October 21-24 in Akron, Ohio. The Indiana and Ohio associations jointly hosted these international meetings.

Our 2006 annual meeting was held Saturday, December 2 in Rockville Indiana.

International Meetings
Representatives from maple producing states and provinces in North America gathered in Green Bay, Wisconsin October 18-21 for the 2006 joint meetings of the North American Maple Syrup Council and the International Maple Syrup Institute. Delegates included representatives from the Indiana Maple Syrup Association.

 

IMSA Holds 2005 Annual Meeting December 3 in Columbia City Photos and Report

The annual meeting of the Indiana Maple Syrup Association was held at the Whitley County Farigrounds in Columbia City, IN on Saturday, December 3. Sessions focused on strategic issues such as inspection, insect infestations, and product liability. Photos and Report of the meeting.

The 2004 annual meeting was held December 4 in New Castle. Featured speaker was Gary Graham who spoke on the topics of sugar bush management and issues of liability. Presentations on maple education and reverse osmosis also on program.

Registration required

It appears that updated (February 2004) interpretations of the Food and Drug Administration Rules related to the Homeland Security Act WILL require that Hoosier maple syrup makers register with the FDA. Earlier editions of the rules were unclear, but maple syrup making has now been specifically identified as a process that requires registration unless the syrup is consumed on the farm.
